| Open Source
Open Source products and solutions can offer reliability, robustness, and quicker development speeds at lower costs than traditional, proprietary technologies. FGM has successfully implemented flexible, Open Source technology solutions for our customers—such as the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), and the Department of State—without compromising functionality, scalability, or ease of maintenance.
When the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining wanted to modernize its Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) demining system, FGM proposed an alternative solution that was largely based in Open Source products. With the exception of the ArcGIS geospatial information system, IMSMA is entirely built using open-source technology. Using JBoss® and Hibernate to provide the transaction management and data persistence; MySQL® for the application database; Java®to create the GUI; SwiXml to create the custom forms; and iReport and JasperReports as the report engine and report rendering tool, FGM delivered a vastly improved information management solution, including the integration of OpenOffice and Adobe® Reader® for viewing search results and report output.
Working closely with the GICHD, FGM completely redesigned the existing standalone
IMSMA application, initially built on proprietary technologies, into an adaptable information management solution using new and innovative Open Source technologies, which eliminated costly licensing fees and accelerated the development timeline.
Developing affordable, technical solutions to complex
problems without compromising quality.
