History

Our Beginnings

At the crux of a rapidly evolving and revolutionary computer industry in the 1980s, three young programmers formed a strategic vision. They envisioned the creation of a company that encompassed an entrepreneurial spirit, allowing independent thought and creativity to thrive. Founded in 1987, FGM, Inc. was built upon four cornerstones:

  • Great Place to Work: We continually challenge our staff, provide the best training, facilities, and benefits possible, and recruit and retain the most talented professionals to keep our leadership pipeline filled.
  • Profitable GrowthWe practice sound financial practices and operate efficiently to maintain our competitiveness; create value for our shareholders so that they may participate in the company’s financial growth.
  • Diverse Customer BaseWe prepare for the future by following our core strategy, and build long-lasting relationships with our teammates and partners.
  • Reputation for ExcellenceWe exceed our customer’s expectations through rigorous quality control and continual process improvement.

Based on this foundation, FGM’s mission became to focus on the long-term needs of clients rather than short-term gains of the organization; to be ardent in exploring the use of new technologies, but pragmatic in applying them to meet customer needs; and to create a corporate environment that encourages employee initiative and professional and leadership growth.

Incorporated Values

FGM began operations as a project-based organization located in Herndon, Virginia focusing on C2 support and the development and installation of briefing control capabilities. We formed a strong and lasting relationship with our first customer, Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), who remains a customer today. In 1992, FGM expanded its services and merged with D’Amour and Associates to provide the DoD with development and integration efforts for numerous large systems. Additionally, Robert Feeley became president, helping to solidify the company’s internal framework and define the pathway to success. As our customers and work increased, so did our presence. From 1994 through 1997, FGM opened several satellite offices to better support our growing portfolio of customers. Following this expansion, Scott Gessay became President and CEO in 1997 and has continued to lead the company in this role since.

In 2003, FGM was organized into customer-centric operational divisions, forming three major segments currently known as: Enterprise Solutions, National Security Solutions, and Defense Mission Solutions. Shortly thereafter, we began supporting the U.S. Army with expert-level technical and operational support for C2 evolution as well as operational training program development in Suffolk, Virginia. The formation of these operational divisions and additional office locations furthered FGM’s consistent 20% growth rate from 1992 to 2005. Broadening our information technology capabilities, FGM acquired the Engineering Services Division of Edge Technologies in 2009. This acquisition extended FGM's professional services in data visualization and data integration technologies, as well as system management solutions.

In June of 2011, FGM promoted the former Edge CEO Larry Chang to Chief Operating Officer, to marshall corporate resources and oversee internal operations. FGM also reorganized all active contracts into two operating divisions, the National Security Solutions Division headed by Morgan Fowle, and the Enterprise Services Division headed by Joe Pantella.
